Since I started wearing extensions, I have received so many requests for a post on my hair routine and the products I use to keep it in tip-top shape! Even though I have been dyeing my hair for years, it shockingly stays pretty healthy and relatively thick. I think this has a lot to do with who you trust to color your hair! The one thing my mom has ALWAYS been really particular about is her hair, and that’s definitely rubbed off on me. (She refuses to use shampoo/conditioner from a drugstore!) I truly think just switching to a better brand of those two products can make a HUGE difference! When I was in college, I would use cheap shampoo/conditioner, and my hair had no shine or texture! I also had to wash it more frequently, so the lesson here is that you get what you pay for! lol. I guess I should add that I only wash my hair once a week… Before you judge, just know that my hair isn’t very oily and I use dry shampoo religiously! Washing your hair too often is actually bad because it strips your hair of the natural oils it produces. That causes it to be less shiny and more brittle/dry!
I’m pretty new to hair extensions, so I’ll just share my honest opinion of the one brand I have used, Bellami Hair! I opted for the 18-inch Piccolina clip in extensions because I wasn’t quite ready to take the plunge with permanent ones. I also liked that they were reasonably priced compared to other brands, and the reviews seemed overall positive! I was nervous about which color to get (I was between platinum blonde and bleach blonde), so I texted my hair stylist to get his opinion! Because who else knows your hair better?! 🙂 He said the platinum blonde looked the most similar, so I went with that. I chose the 18-inch extensions since I mainly wanted them for thickness at the bottom because my hair is already long!
This next part is pretty funny- Once they came in, I slightly freaked out because the color did NOT match my hair and opening the packet meant they were nonreturnable for sanitary reasons. (They do send a sample piece to test thank goodness) I decided worst case scenario my hair stylist could dye them, so I broke the seal and put them all in! The craziest thing is that they blended PERFECTLY. I was in complete shock! I think you have to remember that your hair color is different underneath since it’s never in the light. Long story long (lol), the Bellami Hair extensions flowed well with my real hair, and are SO easy to clip in! I am going to do a tutorial on my Instagram stories soon to show yall exactly how I insert the hair extensions!
PS: I forgot to add that the hair extensions are sold in a set of 7 pieces. I double clip the wefts on top of each other for added thickness (shown in the picture above) and only place them at the back of my head! So never on the sides! To me, this makes it easier to maintain them throughout the day.
Surprisingly, I am not a product junkie like most people. I prefer the few products I actually love instead of having a ton I barely use cluttering my bathroom! This is why my makeup and hair routine rarely changes unless I try a new product that’s amazing. I have seriously been using the ones above for YEARS! (Plus Living Proof Volume Spray, but I forgot to include it in the pic lol!)
Bioinfusion Keratin Thermal Styling Spray: Although I do not straighten or curl my hair as much anymore, I always spray this heat protecting formula on it before I do. I had noticed more breakage on the ends of my hair during college, so I started using this product then! And it still works great to reduce heat damage! *This product is sold out on Amazon but should be available at your local Walgreens/CVS*
Big Sexy Hairspray: Yall. I have seriously been using this hairspray since 8th grade. At least that’s as far back as I can remember?! It’s pricier than drugstore brands, but the quality is undeniable. And you don’t have to use much to make it hold!
S Factor Shampoo/Conditioner: Like I said, my mom is a stickler for nice shampoo/conditioner, so I have been stealing hers lately! It truly makes a difference in the way my hair looks and feels. Plus, this brand smells SO good!
Batiste Dry Shampoo: I had used Batiste previously, but I ran out and started using this other brand (it’s called Kendra I think?) my mom bought. I noticed it made my hair look more greasy than anything else, so I switched back to Batiste and I will NEVER go back. My hair immediately looked 100% better! One of the BEST drugstore items I swear!
Aveda Damage Remedy: I go to an Aveda hair salon, so that’s how I was introduced to the damage remedy gel! I dye my hair every 5-6 weeks, which is so bad but this product really helps to keep it strong and healthy.
Living Proof Volume Spray: If you need a boost of volume when styling, you MUST try this volume spray. I had heard other bloggers rave about it, so I decided to try it out and I’m so happy I did! My hair tends to be pretty silky aka the worst texture for having volume, and this has helped boost it tremendously! PS: I have also learned to not use as much conditioner too!
The Wet Brush: I forgot to include my hairbrush in the picture too, but wanted yall to know what a lifesaver it can be! This brush is specifically made for wet hair! It works to detangle and smooth without causing damage. (Because wet hair can be such a pain!)
**I didn’t take a photo of my hair dryer, straightener, and curling iron so I will link those with the products below**
