A Blog Makeover + Two Piece Sets

July 18, 2016

As y’all can probably tell, Sassy Southern Blonde received a makeover during the weekend! YAY! Even though it was a lot more work than I ever thought, I am beyond happy with the results. I wanted to choose a theme and layout that really reflected the brand I want my blog to have. So obviously, the theme with the most pink won!

This weekend was pretty relaxing, and I probably spent too much time watching Netflix.. (I’m on season 6 of Mad Men.. love it!) I know that once I move back to Starkville, I will be super busy, so I’m taking advantage of my empty schedule right now! My best friend Karly and I are moving into the CUTEST pink house in the Cotton District, which is a popular area for students at Mississippi State. So my mom and I bought a few finishing touches for my bedroom last night. Unfortunately we do not have a HomeGoods, but we have an At Home, which is amazing! I found the softest white rug for my room (I’ll probably regret this later) and a gold mirror for my desk (that I’m turning into a vanity). I’ll have to do an apartment tour post soon because it’s pretty adorable! I’m kind of partial though šŸ™‚

So anyways, summer is definitely my favorite time of the year because I love all the bright colored clothing that stores are selling and people are wearing. Plus, tassels came in hot last year, and I was ecstatic to know they were returning in full force this year! (I probably would have worn them regardless, though) When I found this trendy striped tassel set at Material Girls, I knew it was coming home with me. Did I mention I also buy an obscene amount of two piece sets?! Anyways, I could not resist buying it. The top is sold out, but there are a few sizes left in the shorts here. I’m linking a few similar setsĀ here,Ā here,Ā here, andĀ here! My purse isĀ hereĀ and my shoes are Jeffrey Campbell “Rodillo-Hi” Wedge at Nordstrom!

XOXO

Viva Las Vegas

July 14, 2016

My friends and I travelled to Las Vegas this past weekend, and we had such a fab time! We literally left Laurel at 3 in the morning to make our 6am flight in Gulfport.. But, it worked out perfectly because we got an extra day in Las Vegas to explore! We stayed at the Cosmopolitan and I HIGHLY recommend it if you ever travel there. The Cosmo is a trendy hotel and casino that is walking distance to the Bellagio and Planet Hollywood. We preferred to use Uber to go to Caesar’s Palace, though, because it was a little further than we were willing to walk in the desert heat!

Hands down, the best part of the entire trip was getting to see Britany Spears perform! Her show is an absolute must on your Vegas vaca. It was such a throwback to my childhood, and I loved every minute of it. Before the show started, we ate at this delicious sushi resturant in Planet Hollywood called Koi with some of the best sushi we had ever eaten.

We found out pretty quickly that you can only handle Las Vegas in small doses, so a weekend was just the right amount of time! As my friend Parker said, “It was the most extravagant, fun place I only want to do once!” (I could not agree more)

Of course I saved my favorite outfit for Britney, so I’m attaching the pics in it below. I had purchased this romper from Swoon boutique a couple of months ago and was saving it for the perfect moment. When we planned our Vegas trip, I instantly knew it was the first thing I was going to pack! Although Swoon is sold out of the romper, I did find it on another websiteĀ here! I am also linking similar rompers that I love here,Ā here, andĀ here! My necklace is from Quarter Century and my shoes are sold out, but linked are similar black heels I love that are reasonably pricedĀ hereĀ andĀ here!

XOXO

Sassy Southern Weddings

July 6, 2016

Hey Y’all!

For a while, I have contemplated starting a style blog! Fashion has always had such a huge impact on my life, so much that I chose it as my major. I knew that I would never be truly happy unless I turned my passion into a profession. Although difficult at times, my fashion merchandising classes have constantly reassured me that I made the right decision for my future, which is getting super close.. I graduate college in May šŸ™ I am so excited to see where my blog takes me, but for right now, I am enjoying learning about blogging. (So please bare with me)

My first blog post is going to be a little different from future posts! I wanted to share some cute pictures from my friend Alise’s wedding, link a few dresses that are perfect for any summer weddings you have left to attend, and go over wedding dress code rules that definitely still apply!

In 2016, most wedding dress codes are pretty much irrelevant. Guests are free to wear basically anything, as long as it complies with the dressy or casual wedding theme. However, there are a few rules that I think should still be followed.

  • Yes to a LBD, NO to a LWD: Although etiquette books actually say you can, I beg to differ. The first person I notice at a wedding is the woman who was brave enough to show up in a “little white dress”. Plus most people don’t know that you can wear white dresses to a wedding, so it’s easier to just avoid the stares and whispers altogether!
  •  Do NOT Have Your Phone Out During the Ceremony: Sorry, it doesn’t count as an accessory. This should be common sense, but unfortunately it happens all the time. From disrupting the service to blocking the photographer’s view with your own “professional photos”, it’s best to just keep your phone in your purse or pocket. And besides, wedding ceremonies (especially in the South) tend to happen quickly anyways.. People are trying to get to the wedding cake šŸ™‚
  • Tight Dresses are for Bars, Not Weddings: There’s a fine line between looking sexy and looking slutty. Don’t be the girl who becomes the center of attention for wearing something too revealing or too short. Remember that this is the bride’s day, not yours! If you aren’t sure, ask a close friend. I promise she’ll be honest with you!

I hope y’all have enjoyed my first post! I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me! Below, I am attaching appropriate wedding guest dresses from a few of my favorite stores.

XOXO,

Kels
