Sassy Southern Weddings

July 6, 2016

Hey Y’all!

For a while, I have contemplated starting a style blog! Fashion has always had such a huge impact on my life, so much that I chose it as my major. I knew that I would never be truly happy unless I turned my passion into a profession. Although difficult at times, my fashion merchandising classes have constantly reassured me that I made the right decision for my future, which is getting super close.. I graduate college in May 🙁 I am so excited to see where my blog takes me, but for right now, I am enjoying learning about blogging. (So please bare with me)

My first blog post is going to be a little different from future posts! I wanted to share some cute pictures from my friend Alise’s wedding, link a few dresses that are perfect for any summer weddings you have left to attend, and go over wedding dress code rules that definitely still apply!

In 2016, most wedding dress codes are pretty much irrelevant. Guests are free to wear basically anything, as long as it complies with the dressy or casual wedding theme. However, there are a few rules that I think should still be followed.

  • Yes to a LBD, NO to a LWD: Although etiquette books actually say you can, I beg to differ. The first person I notice at a wedding is the woman who was brave enough to show up in a “little white dress”. Plus most people don’t know that you can wear white dresses to a wedding, so it’s easier to just avoid the stares and whispers altogether!
  •  Do NOT Have Your Phone Out During the Ceremony: Sorry, it doesn’t count as an accessory. This should be common sense, but unfortunately it happens all the time. From disrupting the service to blocking the photographer’s view with your own “professional photos”, it’s best to just keep your phone in your purse or pocket. And besides, wedding ceremonies (especially in the South) tend to happen quickly anyways.. People are trying to get to the wedding cake 🙂
  • Tight Dresses are for Bars, Not Weddings: There’s a fine line between looking sexy and looking slutty. Don’t be the girl who becomes the center of attention for wearing something too revealing or too short. Remember that this is the bride’s day, not yours! If you aren’t sure, ask a close friend. I promise she’ll be honest with you!

I hope y’all have enjoyed my first post! I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me! Below, I am attaching appropriate wedding guest dresses from a few of my favorite stores.

XOXO,

Kels
